TBRI® & SAMA®

Trauma-informed approaches that support safety, connection, and healing.

TBRI & SAMA

At The Brotherhood Academy, we are committed to providing the best care and support to the young men we serve. We recognize that every child is unique and may have experienced challenges that require specialized approaches to healing and growth. That's why we embrace two powerful methodologies: Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA).

TBRI is a research-based, trauma-informed intervention model developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross at the TCU Institute of Child Development. It is designed to meet the complex needs of children who have experienced adversity, trauma, and attachment disruptions.

At The Brotherhood Academy, TBRI is at the heart of our care philosophy. We understand that many of the young men who come to us have faced significant challenges in their lives. TBRI equips our team with the tools and strategies needed to build trust, create a sense of security, and promote healing in these young lives. By focusing on connection, empowerment, and correctives, we provide a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

SAMA is a crisis intervention and prevention program designed to ensure safety for all individuals involved in crisis situations. It equips our staff with the skills needed to de-escalate potentially volatile situations while ensuring the safety and well-being of our young men and our team.

Our commitment to SAMA means that we prioritize safety and use proactive strategies to prevent crises whenever possible. By teaching our staff how to recognize the warning signs of potential aggression and how to respond effectively, we create an environment where everyone can feel secure and supported.

At The Brotherhood Academy, we take a holistic approach to care. TBRI® and SAMA® are two components of a comprehensive care model that supports emotional, behavioral, educational, and relational growth. These approaches are integrated into daily routines, therapeutic interventions, and educational programming to ensure each young man receives individualized, trauma-informed support.
