Admissions
At The Brotherhood Academy, our admissions process is designed to ensure a smooth, secure transition for young men entering our care. We take time to understand each candidate’s needs, history, and strengths to determine the best environment for growth and healing. Below is a simplified overview of our process.
Our Process
-
1. Initial Screening
Upon receiving an admission request, our team gathers basic information about the candidate, including age, gender, and grade. We may also request specific forms if applicable.
-
2. Pre-Admission Questionnaire
Candidates who pass the initial screening complete a pre-admission questionnaire, including a Suicide Assessment. We assess each candidate's compatibility with our existing residents.
-
3. Supervisor Review
Our Supervisors and Executive Director review the candidate's file to determine if we can provide the necessary level of care. If not, we will communicate this promptly.
-
4. Family Communication
Throughout the process, our team maintains clear and consistent communication with the candidate's family or caseworker. We provide them with essential information and the Brotherhood Academy parent handbook.
-
5. In-Person Interviews
In-person interviews are conducted separately with the managing conservator/parent and the child. These interviews cover a wide range of topics, including family history, clinical issues, and behavioral matters.
-
6. Documentation and Timing
We require various documents for admission, such as birth certificates, medical records, and consent forms. These documents help us ensure the child's well-being. Our goal is to complete this process within two weeks if we receive proper cooperation from the managing conservator.
-
7. Reunification Agreement
We explain the reunification agreement to the child's family, ensuring mutual understanding and agreement.
-
8. Review and Decision
Our admissions team evaluates all collected information, and if the candidate is accepted, we inform the family promptly.
-
9. Final Documentation
All information and documentation are carefully recorded in the child's file and our Extended Reach software.
-
10. External Information
Before admission is finalized, we request materials from the candidate's current or most recent placement to consider their history and needs.
Admission Criteria
To ensure the safety of our youth and maintain our nurturing, Christ-centered environment, The Brotherhood Academy has specific admission guidelines.
We are unable to admit youth who currently or recently (within the past year) exhibit any of the following behaviors:
✅ Persistent violence or aggression toward others
✅ Sexual aggression or sexually reactive behavior
✅ Animal cruelty
✅ Fire setting or destruction of property by fire
✅ Habitual runaway behavior
✅ Active suicidal ideation or self-harm requiring clinical intervention
We welcome young men who are seeking hope, stability, and growth in a safe, Christ-centered environment. Our goal is to walk alongside them as they heal, learn, and build a brighter future rooted in faith and purpose.
